Ghana is expected to name just 26 players for their provisional squad for next month's African Cup of Nations tournament later today Monday, 20 December 2021.

Taking a cue from past events, the GFA and the Black Stars technical team have decided to call just 26 players for the pre-AFCON preparations although they can name 28 players per the new CAF rules.

In the past, players who are cut loose have caused problems whiles other who know that they would not make the cut sometimes cause disruptions in training with savage tackles.

The Serbian trainer has already submitted his squad list to the Ghana Football Association and met the Black Stars management committee last week Tuesday to finalize on the list and also hold talks about their preparations among others.

His squad list is predominantly dominated by foreign based Ghanaian players and some big names are expected to be snubbed with a handful of local players expected to complete the list.

The Black Stars – four time African champions are aiming to end the 40 year wait for the Africa Cup of Nations trophy having last won the Tournament in Libya in 1982.

The team will open camp in Doha, Qatar on December 22, 2021 for a period of two weeks to prepare for the competition which kicks off on January 9, 2022.

But the Serbian gaffer is expected to downsize his squad from to 26 players on 30th December 2021 for the tournament.

Ghana who are paired with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros in Group C will open their campaign with a game against the Atlas Lions of Morocco on January 10 before playing the Panthers of Gabon and the Coelacanths of Comoros on January 14 and 18 respectively.

The African Cup of Nations tournament will start on 9th January- 6th February,2022 in Cameroon.
