Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah made his debut for his new side Girondin de Bordeaux in their 2-2 drawn game against Marseille at the Stade de Velodrome.

Girondins de Bordeaux battled back from two goals down at half-time to hold Olympique de Marseille to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling game in front of 50,000 fans at the Orange Vélodrome on Sunday.
Fans flocked to the Vélodrome for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in March last year and those supporters were hoping to see OM claim another victory to follow their 3-2 success in Montpellier on the opening weekend of the campaign. Things were going well when they led 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals by Cengiz Ünder and the inevitable Dimitri Payet, but substitutes Timothée Pembélé and Rémi Oudin netted after the break to earn the visitors a draw.

The evening had not started at all well for the visitors, who had to withdraw Samuel Kalu early on after he appeared to faint while standing in the wall waiting for a Payet free-kick. He was replaced in the 14th minute by Oudin.

The 23-year-old had 34 accurate passes, a pass success rate of 83% and one shot.

He has been handed a call up by C.K Akonnor in next month's World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia.
