Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has warned the Ghana Football Association hierarchy that players of Ghanaian descent or in the diaspora should only be invited to play at the FIFA World Cup when others have toiled in the remotest countries across the African continent.

Most often, Ghanaian players born in the diaspora are only interested in the World Cup and when its time for the African Cup or qualifiers they tend to give all many of excuses.

Some do even retire from the national team when there are qualifiers or the African Cup only to resurface when World Cup qualification is secured.

Speaking in interview with Accra-based Max FM, the former Udinese star called on the Ghana FA not to rush in handing call ups to diaspora players just because of the World Cup.

“We should not rush and call players just because of the World Cup and lose them after. Those who wouldn’t have any problem switching nationality must be ready for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers so they get familiar with the terrain. It shouldn’t be that the player plays the World Cup and that’s it”.

It will be the fourth time Ghana will be playing at the FIFA World Cup and have been placed in group H alongside Portugal, Korea Republic and Uruguay.
