Private legal practitioner and veteran Sports journalist, Moses Foh Amoaning says that paying huge winning bonuses is not a guarantee that Ghana will end the almost 40 year AFCON drought.

He says that Ghanaians are fed up of paying these extravagant winning bonuses and appearance fees to the Black Stars without any returns.

According to the lawyer, we have been paying fat bonuses and appearance fees since 2006 and nothing has changed so we should devise a different means other than money.

Ghana's dream of ending the nearly four decade wait for a fifth AFCON title and qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will cost Ghana $25million according to the Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif.

He made this known at a Presidential breakfast meeting on Monday morning at the Jubilee House with Chief Executive Officers of various state firms and corporate institutions.

Since the announcement by the Sports Minister on Monday that Ghana will need a budget of $25million to play in the 2021 AFCON and the 2022 World Cup qualifies many Ghanaians have hit hard at the government for budgeting such obscene amount for these two tournaments.

The President also urged the Black Stars to win the AFCON title and also reach the semi finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

He also added that government will hand the Black Stars $10million and corporate Ghana should also add the remaining $15million.

According to Foh Amoaning it is a good initiative to raise money for the national team but we should not be fixated about always pumping money to the players as it has never solved the AFCON title drought.

“It is good to go and solicit for funds for the Black Stars ahead of their AFCON campaign,” he told Accra based Happy FM.

"It is good but we shouldn’t be led by money in our quest to win the AFCON title.

“We have been paying high winning bonuses since 2006. It’s time to let the players know that they must win the trophy before getting any reward.

"There were times high bonuses were paid because we wanted to qualify for the World Cup.

“Ghanaians are tired of always paying huge winning and qualification bonuses."

Moses Foh-Amoaning indicated he is confident if the right measures are put in place, the current leadership of the Black Stars can win the AFCON title.

“Trust me this current Black Stars management committee led by George Amoako and Fred Pappoe can win the Afcon title for us. They qualified us for our first World Cup. They are strong enough and also have the quality to win”.
