Legendary former Hearts of Oak striker, Ishmael Addo has slammed Ghanaians for loving foreigners more than their own.

He says that Frank Mbella who fell short of the goal king award has received more plaudits than 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League goal king Yaw Annor.

According to Addo, Ghanaians do not patronize their own but are always quick to jump onto foreign products.

Heading into the last game of the season, only a goal separated the Cameroonian striker from the Ashgold ace as Mbella had 21 goals whiles Annor had 20.

Kotoko played on Saturday against Accra Lions but Frank Mbella failed to score as Yaw Annor scored twice on Sunday in Ashgolds's 2-2 drawn game against Bibiani Gold Stars.

“Oh, somebody else, not him [Mbella]? [Do] you see what I’m saying? Because the foreigner never did it and a Ghanaian did it, everybody was quiet about it. They were making so much noise because he was a foreigner,” Addo told Joy Sports.

“This is what I’m saying about Ghanaians; they won’t patronize their own people. Give them [Ghanaians] that encouragement, and confidence to be better, but they are rather thinking about somebody who is coming from somewhere and it’s not even a shame to you?”

The Ashgold forward equaled Ishmael Addo's 22-goal record as the highest-ever goal tally scored in the Ghana  Premier League.

Addo netted 22 goals in the 2001 Ghana Premier League season as the Phobians went on to win the treble with him winning the golden boot.
