The country manager for Air France and KLM, Dick van Nieuwenhuyzen believes recent infrastructure development in Ghana’s aviation sector indicates clear case of progress.

“I see a new departure terminal being built; recently a new cargo terminal has been opened. You do that because you see growth, you see opportunities to expand your business,” Mr. Nieuwenhuyzen told Starr Business.

He added that the move will bring more competition among the few international Airlines that operate direct from Accra, “if you see also, a lot of airlines have left. The market remains the same but the cake will be divided differently.”

KLM, a member of the Air France group, recently celebrated 56 years of operation in Ghana.

Mr. Nieuwenhuyzen believes the experience gathered by KLM during this duration will guide Air France to ensure consistent and improved service in the country, “and I’m convinced that together with KLM; we celebrated last Monday 56 years of operation in this country, so we are almost a national carrier.”

He added: “I think together with Air France it will create much more competition, it will create possibilities for the Ghanaians and the business people to fly more because we simply adding more seats in the market.”

Air France will be doing three weekly flight scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday starting from February 28, 2017.

These flights will be operated by Airbus A330 with a capacity of 208 seat until March 27, 2017 when the Boeing 777-200 with 312 seats and equipped with the latest new Air France travel cabins for the entire summer season.
