Ghanaian defender Harrison Afful was in action on Thursday dawn for his MLS side Charlotte FC as they took on English giants Chelsea in a pre-season friendly match.

The right-back was impressive for his side as the game ended 1-1 in regulation time but the MLS side won the penalty shoot-out by 5-3 after Chelsea's Connor Gallagher missed his kick with a fanciful panenka which backfired.

Many Ghanaians who watches the game had a lot of praise for the 35year old veteran defender who starred for his side against the English side.

He managed to keep the Chelsea attack quiet on the right flank in a game in which the Blues wasted a lot of chances in the first half but crumbled in the second half.

After the match, Harrison Afful swapped his jersey with Chelsea's new boy Raheem Sterling.

Afful has not announced his retirement from the Ghana national team but has been overlooked the last four years by the various handlers of the senior national team.

He has not played a game for Ghana since playing at the 2018 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

The former Kotoko defender will be hoping to impress the handlers of the national team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
