Ghana's aspirations have been dealt a significant blow as England has extended a debut call-up to Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah ahead of their upcoming Euro qualifier and friendly match.

Despite Ghana's longstanding interest in the talented striker, who was born to Ghanaian parents in England, Nketiah's decision to await a call-up from the Three Lions has led to this outcome.

While Nketiah has notably represented England at various youth competitions, his debut for the senior team has eluded him.

However, he has now received a maiden call-up for the upcoming Euro qualifier against Ukraine and a friendly fixture against Scotland.

With an impressive record of 16 goals for England's U21 team, Nketiah's talents have shone brightly on the international stage.

Nevertheless, the path to representing the senior Three Lions remains uncertain, prompting him to explore other avenues.

Initially indicating a willingness to switch his nationality and represent Ghana, Nketiah eventually experienced a change of heart.

As a result, he will now be watching the World Cup from the sidelines, unable to contribute on the pitch for the country of his parental heritage.

Eddie Nketiah, 22, was born in Lewisham, England, to Ghanaian parents. Despite his prolific performance at the U-21 level, where he boasts 17 caps and 16 goals, he has not yet made an appearance for the senior England team.

His strong form this season in the English Premier League, with two goals in three matches for Arsenal, adds to his credentials as a talented striker.

As Ghana faces the disappointment of missing out on Nketiah's representation, the nation has seen other players like Tariq Lamptey and Inaki Williams choose to switch nationalities in order to don the jersey of the Black Stars.
