Egyptian club Ghazl El Mahalla is poised to strengthen their defense with the acquisition of Ghanaian left-back Abdul Fatawu Hamidu from Medeama SC.

As the team prepares for the upcoming 2024-25 season, which kicks off in September, they aim to solidify their backline following their recent return to the top-flight league.

Hamidu has been a standout performer for Medeama SC, playing a pivotal role in their historic Ghana Premier League title win during the 2022-23 season.

His impressive performances continued in the CAF Champions League, where Medeama reached the group stage for the first time.

The 25-year-old's national team debut in September of last year has also attracted attention from several clubs.

Despite interest from Egyptian giants Zamalek SC, their coach ultimately decided against pursuing Hamidu, allowing El Mahalla to secure his services.

Hamidu's addition is expected to significantly bolster Ghazl El Mahalla's campaign in the Egyptian Premier League and other domestic competitions.

The defender has already arrived in Egypt and completed his medical check-up.

He is anticipated to sign a contract lasting at least three years once all paperwork is finalized.
