A stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ato Ahwoi has secured an official short code and a mobile money number for the John Mahama 2020 Campaign.

The number and the code are to enable contributors support former President John Dramani Mahama raise the GH¢400,000 filing fee for the party's presidential primary next year.

The move is being steered by the Committee for Mahama Election Two (COMET), which is chaired by Mr Ahwoi.

A statement signed and issued by Mr Ahwoi on Monday, December 3 said:“COMET assures the general public of the highest levels of accountability and judicious utilization of proceeds realized,”

Though most of the contributors are expected to send in GH¢1,000 each, the statement added: “We also wish to stress that any amount is welcome and no amount will be deemed too small”.

Presidential aspirants are expected to pick forms on Monday and Tuesday, December 4 at GH¢20,000 after which it will be filed at GH¢400,000.

Meanwhile MPs4Mahama, a group of 96 Minority Members of Parliament who have declared their support for former President John Mahama's bid to lead the party ahead of the 2020 general elections, has so far mobilised 603 pledges of GHS1,000 each towards footing the GHS420,000 nomination and filing fees of Mr Mahama.

Sources close to MPs4Mahama indicate the group has so far raised GHS600,000 through its "Operation 420 people willing to contribute GHS1,000 for JM" campaign.

The biggest opposition party's presidential primary is slated for 19 January 2019.
