Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has departed the team's camp in Japan for the Kirin Cup.

The left back has been a mainstay in the team having played in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against  Madagascar and also Central African Republic.

He is said to have suffered an injury and as such has been given the permission to excuse himself and recuperate.

Aside that the player who played last season for relegated French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux will have to return o his parent club RB Salzburg where a determination will have  to be made on his future.

Ghana will already be without Jojo Wollacot and Antoine Semenyo who have both left the team's camp for varied reasons.

Mensah's absence may open the door for Hearts of Oak's Dennis Korsah to stake a claim  for himself at left back.

The Kirin tournament will give the technical team the platform to test their strength against Asian giants Japan, former African Champions Tunisia and South American hot shot Chile.

The 2022 Kirin Cup will take place from Friday, June 10 to Wednesday, June 14, 2022 in Japan.
