Former Dutch International with Ghanaian heritage, George Boateng has backed Black Stars head coach, C.K Akonnor to be a huge success despite somewhat a difficult start.

The former Kotoko, Hearts of Oak coach took over the reigns of the Black Stars job in January 2020 but had to wait until November before playing his first game as a coach.

In the two competitive games he has played so far, he has won one and lost the other against Sudan in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers.

The Aston Villa youth coach, George Boateng says that despite an indifferent start to his career as Black Stars coach, C.K Akonnor only needs time to be a success.

“I think as a nation, we need to give C.K the time to explore, to learn,” Boateng said in an interview.

“We have to give him a chance and support him and the team to qualify.

“In the first fixture against Sudan when Dede scored twice, I thought it was really enjoyable football. They played really well,” he continued.

“That gives us a lot of hope that C.K eventually might get what we need and put a team together that is willing to fight for the country.”

Akonnor has been task to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations [Afon] which will be hosted in Cameroon in 2021.
