Ghana Premier League champions Accra Hearts of Oak signed Great Olympics midfielder Gladson Awako to bolster their squad for their African Cup campaign.

The Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako signed a two year deal with Ghana Premier League Champions Accra Hearts of Oak after passing his medical exams and agreeing a transfer fee.

But his representative Yussif Alhassan Chibsah says that it could have been different but for family reasons as the player received a lot of offers from foreign clubs.

According the player's representatives, he chose to stay in Ghana because he wanted to stay close to his newly born child and the family that is why he chose Hearts of Oak.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup winner after the season had received numerous offers from clubs but chose to join Accra Hearts of Oak.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Pure FM, Yusif Chibsah, a former Ghana International disclosed that Awako chose to stay home because of his baby.

“Awako wanted to join Hearts of Oak. There were offers from foreign clubs for him but he had his own reasons. He has a baby who is less than a year old and he wanted to stay close to the family,”.

Gladson Awako was outstanding in the 2020/21 season despite facing lots of doubts prior to the start and went on to contribute 13 goals for his club in the league, scoring 6 and providing 7 assists.

He earned a call up to the Black Stars and made his debut in an African Cup qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe at the Accra Sports Stadium.
