GOC Prez criticizes Otto Addo's ability to lead Black Stars to 2026 World Cup
2nd December 2024
Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has expressed doubts about Otto Addo's capability to lead the Black Stars to the 2026 World Cup.
Nunoo Mensah believes that Addo lacks the essential skills, knowledge, and leadership qualities required to guide the team to success.
Addo and his technical team have faced significant criticism after Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is set to take place in Morocco.
The Black Stars finished last in their AFCON qualifying group (Group F), securing only three points from six matches against Angola, Sudan, and Niger.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Nunoo Mensah did not hold back his criticism, questioning Addo's competency as head coach.
He specifically pointed to the disappointing performance against Niger and reiterated his lack of confidence in Addo's ability to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
"I have not been convinced about Otto Addo's coaching prowess, especially in the game against Niger," Nunoo Mensah remarked.
"In crucial matches, it’s the coaches who make the difference, and based on what I’ve seen in the AFCON qualifiers, I don’t believe he is the right man to take Ghana to the World Cup in 2026."
