German-born Ghanaian centre-back Maxwell Gyamfi has joined German Bundesliga II club FC Kaiserslautern from third-tier side VfL Osnabrück.

The 25-year-old former Borussia Dortmund youth product joins on a free transfer, with the club not disclosing the length of his contract.

In an official statement, the Red Devils announced: "FC Kaiserslautern has secured the services of Maxwell Gyamfi. The 25-year-old defender is moving from third-division club VfL Osnabrück to the Palatinate."

Expressing his excitement after signing, Gyamfi told the club's website: "FCK is simply a big name in German football, a good address. I'm convinced that moving here is the right next step in my career to further develop myself.

I've been following the club's path for some time and am looking forward to becoming a part of it and hopefully having a successful time here."

Sporting director Marcel Klos praised the acquisition, saying: "We are delighted that we were able to convince Maxwell to join FCK. Last season, he was one of the top players in the third division.

With his speed and dynamism, he brings components that are important for our game and for the second division in general. He also possesses a hard-working mentality, which we value highly at FCK. Furthermore, he is a young player with great potential for development."

Gyamfi made 33 appearances for VfL Osnabrück in the 2024/25 season across all competitions and is widely regarded as one of the standout defenders in Germany’s 3. Liga.

Although born in Germany, Gyamfi remains eligible to represent Ghana internationally, having yet to feature for any German national team at senior level.
