Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Eric Sékou Chelle has pointed out the potential threat Ghana could pose ahead of their 2025 Unity Cup opener at the London GTech Stadium on Wednesday, May 28.

The two West African rivals happen to be a part of the four-nation tournament that also includes Carribean rivals, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

As Ghana has been scheduled to play it out agains Nigeria in the semifinal fixture, the winner of the rival clash will face one of  Jamaice or Trinidad and Tobago in the grande finale on May 30 as they also get to reignite their rivalry in the semifinal fixture.

Eric Chelle said at the pre-match press conference: “This is a great cup and Ghana is a great team. I know the coach, he is a great coach with a good staff, a lot of good players but we are a great nation too, we have a lot of good players.” The head coach asserted.

“We have a lot of players in our national league, they play well and this is my vision to focus on the players. They can bring something new and we can work and we can focus on their skills and maybe these two matches can bring us something new.”

“The reality and focus is the first game, I can’t tell you that I want the cup but the reality is that I have a first game against a great team and we need to make a great game to win.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will tend to use the games to prepare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in September where they will host Rwanda before hitting the road to South Africa in the double header. Nigeria sit 4th on 7 points, one behind Benin and Rwanda with South Africa leading the group with 13 points.
