GoldBod Jewellery Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board, has clarified its role in the 2026 Women of Valour event held in the United Kingdom after social media discussions suggested the company sponsored the programme.
The company stated that it did not provide financial sponsorship for the event, which took place on March 7 at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
Questions emerged online after a photograph circulated showing GoldBod Jewellery listed among the partners of the event, prompting concerns about why a state-linked institution would appear associated with a privately organised programme held outside Ghana.
The Women of Valour event, founded by Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, brought together professional women for networking and discussions ahead of International Women’s Day.
In a statement shared on X, GoldBod Jewellery explained that its role was limited to providing promotional discounts on jewellery purchases to participants as part of its Ghana Heritage Month promotions, and did not involve any direct financial support.
“GoldBod Jewellery Limited is listed as one of the partners of this year’s Women of Valour event because the company offered discounts on jewellery purchases to participants of the programme as part of our ongoing Ghana Heritage Month promotions,” the company said.
The clarification comes amid growing online debate about the involvement of public or state-linked institutions in privately organised programmes, particularly those held outside Ghana and not widely accessible to the public.
Although GoldBod Jewellery has explained its limited participation, conversations on social media continue, with some users calling for clearer guidelines on how government-affiliated organisations engage with external events and empowerment initiatives.
