President Akufo-Addo has gotten admiration from NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following his latest approach towards the fight against corruption in Ghana.

This follows the President’s call on some diplomats at this year’s Diplomatic New Year Greeting Ceremony at the Peduase Lodge, Eastern Region to aid him and his government battle the age-old corruption canker.

The President, in his address to the diplomats, admonished them to report any act of corruption by any of his appointees, a move he hopes will help make corruption a high-risk venture and help curb the canker.

“Should you, members of the Diplomatic Corps, be notified of any evidence of corruption against any of my appointees, I insist that they are shared with my office to enable action to be taken on the matter. That is better for our relations than unspecified generalized pronouncements on corruption,” he entreated.

He indicated that corruption is the bane of national development and as a president with the growth of the nation as his primary agenda, he will not stop at anything to ensure it is nipped in the bud.

“I am determined to build in Ghana a culture of transparent, open and accountable governance that will be the equal of any on the face of the planet” he averred adding that “I did not come into politics to enrich myself but to serve the public interest.”

Reacting to the development, Mr Ablakwa, applauded the President, describing his admonition to the members of the diplomatic body as a “good call.”

He, however, urged President Akufo-Addo to walk the talk by resisting temptations to shield his appointees who are cited for wrongdoing.

“Good call by the President except if the diplomats would not hear him clearing the said appointees on their way to the President’s office,” the legislator said.
