NEW DELHI: Search giant Google has announced that it is bringing Google Assistant support to Android Messages. The users can now use the Google Assistant to send and read text messages.
If a user is using Google Assistant to text then a button will appear in the smart replies section of the app. In case the user tap on the button then it will ask the Assistant a question and will give option to put the answer directly into the text messages thread. For the time being the feature is limited only to English language.

In case you are worried that Google might end up reading your text messages then worry not . The company said that the information sent to Google servers is the text of the Google Assistant button that you tap. The suggestions generated by Google Assistant are based on the analysis of what's there in the thread.

For instance, if you receive a message asking if you want to go to a restaurant, then you will probably see suggestions like a pizza emoji with yes written next to it, or a button which will help search for the restaurant. In case you tap on the suggestion given then a small Assistant box will slide up a card with the information and the options.

Google is now busy focusing on introducing new features to Android Messages since it announced the shutdown of its messaging app Allo. The messaging app will completely shut down next month. After the complete shutdown of Google Allo, Android Messages will be the only texting app of the company which will offer support for SMS, MMS and RCS.

Recently, Google also announced that it is bringing the Google Assistant to feature phones that run on KaiOS. This means that soon the Reliance JioPhone and the JioPhone 2 will have support for Google Assistant.
