NEW DELHI: Tech giant Google has dedicated a doodle to mark the beginning of spring. The animated doodle consist of flower on the earth surface. The first day of spring called Spring Equinox falls on a Thursday.

The word Equinox is derived from the Latin which means equal and night. Spring Equinox is the day when night and day are equal in length. So, everywhere in the world the night and daytime will be 12 hours long.

Equinox is also used to mark the change of season because the balance of light shift to make days longer than nights. This also marks the end of the winter season and intimate the people about the arrival of summer.

On the day of Equinox the sun directly rises from the east and sets directly in the west. Each year consist of two equinoxes one occurs in March and the other in September.

The day also marks the final supermoon of the year. During the March Equinox, the sun crosses the equator from south to north and the opposite of this takes place during the September Equinox. As per astronomy the Spring Equinox also marks a major turning point in the Earth's cycle of four seasons.
