At least five police personnel have been shot and killed while on duty in the last month raising concerns among members of the service and the general public.

With the latest been last Wednesday’s dastardly shooting of two officers of the Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) on the Kasoa- Budumburam stretch in the Central region.

The two officers who lost their lives in the line of duty are 32 year old lance corporal Awal Mohammed and Sergeant Peter Dzamesi .

A funeral service was held on Friday 30th August,2019 at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District in honour of the slain Police officer.

Speaking at the funeral service the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who also doubles as the chairman of the Police council revealed that government will prioritize the welfare of families of Police officers killed in line of duty.

“We have to think about their families, we have to think about their wives and children and how they are going to be looked after, following their burial and so on.

“We want to assure the family that government is very much concerned about how the children and their wives are going to be looked after and packages are being prepared to make sure that their wives and children are well catered for” Dr. Bawumia assured.
