The minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has stated that the fact that those behind the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale are walking free, is a serious matter.

He added that the serious nature of the case should have been enough grounds for its conclusion long ago.

Nkrumah however noted that the government has advised the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, to act promptly on such cases in the interest of the public.

He went on to say that someone was recently arrested in connection with the case but was released after it was discovered that intelligence leading to the arrest was faulty.

Nkrumah’s comments follow a statement attributed to investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, with regard to Suale’s death.

We earlier reported that Anas accused the government of failing to protect journalists, leading to tragedies such as Suale’s death.

Speaking at the Media Freedom Conference in London jointly organized by the governments of UK and Canada, Anas expressed sadness at events that led to the killing of his colleague by unknown gunmen.

The police administration has meanwhile indicated that it has interrogated about 13 suspects in connection with the case.

In another report, a prosecution witness in the trial of suspected murderers of the late Major Maxwell Mahama, ACP Baffour Apenteng Nyamekye, has been involved in an accident.

The Accra High Court was informed that ACP Nyamekye, who gave his evidence in chief and was cross-examined as the 12th prosecution witness, was informed in the accident but discharged on Monday, July 10, 2019.

The chief state attorney, Evelyn Keelson, informed the court that she briefly interacted with the witness and prayed the court for an adjournment.
