A former Black Stars player who is now a football coach, James Kuuku Dadzie has urged the government not to pay any monies to players of the Black Stars as appearance fees before the 2022 World Cup tournament.

Money and bonuses for the Black Stars during the World Cup have become a sticking point as it caused a global embarrassment for Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The government had to airlift cash from Ghana to pay the appearance fees of the Black Stars as they threatened to boycott the World Cup if it was not paid.

According to the former Black Stars player, monies should only be paid to the players during the tournament when FIFA advances payment to the GFA.

“The point is that players should not be paid appearance fee before the commencement of the tournament because per it meaning, players should appear and participate in a tournament before any form of appearance fee is paid to them”

“Why then should the government pay appearance fees to players before they appear in the tournament and compete? He quizzed.

“FIFA pays some money to the qualified countries to enhance their preparation for the tournament, so the Black Stars do not need any money for anything before the competition begin. In the course of the competition, the government can pay winning bonuses to players when they win matches, so monetary considerations should not play any role before or during the tournament” he told Daily Graphic.
