Accra Lions pulled further away from the basement of the Ghana Premier League table after defeating Medeama SC on Saturday in their match day 16 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
It was a match that could have gone either side as Medeama felt hard done after what appeared a clean goal by Kwasi Donsu in 20th minute was flagged offside despite running from deep to meet the cross.
Accra Lions needed a solitary strike from Fatawu Hamidu to halt their four game winless run after a difficult last few weeks.
The Tarkwa based side dominated the opening exchanges of the game but could not convert the chances that came their way.
Medeama were shown how to convert when in the 32nd minute, Fatawu Hamidu slotted home to give the home side a 1-0 lead against the run of play.
The home side went into the break with a solitary 1-0 lead as the mauve and yellows licked their wounds after wasting all the chances that came their way.
Accra Lions came out the better of the two sides as they pressed for the second goal of the game.
Daniel Awuni nearly added a second goal but for Medeama's Ivorian goalkeeper Mandjui Boris who pulled up a magnificent save.
The away side pushed for the elusive equalizer but that never arrived as the home side halted the rot with a win in their last four matches.
Accra Lions are now 11th on the league log whiles Medeama are 3rd on the table after 16 matches with other teams to play later today and on Monday.
