Kumasi Asante Kotoko continued stretched their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table with a narrow 1-0 win over Medeama SC in their match day 14 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

A spot kick late in the game was converted by Cameroonian import Georges Rodrigues Mfegue to hand the porcupine warriors all three points.

Perhaps a 1-0 score line was so flattering for the away side as their Ivorian goalkeeper Mandjui Boris Jnr. was the hero as he denied Kotoko on several occasions.

Ahmed Toure chased a long ball from his goalkeeper in the early stages of the game but the Kotoko defense cleared the ball to safety.

Augustine Agyapong surged forward from the right flank but sent his cross high and wide beyond the reach of the Kotoko attackers.

Medeama's Agyei Boakye also had a fine chance but when he entered the Kotoko box his poor cross was cleared to safety.

Dickson Afoakwa who started for the first time in a while was very lively and sent a rasping shot towards goal but was tipped over by the impressive Mandjui Boris Jnr.

Medeama Kwasi Donsu proved that he has not lost it as he sent a trademark long drive towards goal but it was well held by Kotoko goalie Danlad Ibrahim.

The home side pressed on as left back Ibrahim Imoro sent a shot curling into the top corner but it was tipped wide by the Medeama goalie.

There was nothing to separate both sides as they headed for the break as Medeama started the stronger with Kwadwo Asamoah stinging the palms of Danlad Ibrahim.

The mauve and yellows had successive corner kicks but it came to nothing as the Kotoko denfense held firm.

Richmond Lamptey thought he had opened the scores for the porcupine warriors as he sent a powerful volley toward goal but it was saved by  the impregnable Mandjui Boris in post for the yellow and mauves.

In the 79th minute Georges Mfegue opened the scores with a fine finish into the far corner after Samuel Boateng lost the ball initially in the box.

With five minute to end the game Kotoko had a penalty kick after Richmond Lamptey was upended in the box but the spot kick was saved by the Medeama goalie from a George Mfegue strike.
