Accra Hearts of Oak fell on the road to Medeama SC in their outstanding league game at the Tarkwa and Abosso Park on Wednesday afternoon.

The phobians were supposed to have played this game on match day 5 but they were committed elsewhere playing in Africa interclub competitions.

A late penalty from former Hearts of Oak center back Vincent Atinga for Medeama condemned the phobians to their first defeat since losing to AshantiGold early in the Ghana Premier League.

The home side started the game on the front foot as they were all over the phobians for much of the game as the rainbow side were clutching at straws.

A fine save from Hearts goalkeeper Richmond Ayi kept the scores level as Ahmed Toure threatened in the second half as they continued from where they left off in the first half.

Hearts also had half chances as Afriyie Barnieh sent his shot from distance wide but things turned sour for the champions as Mohammed Alhassan fell a Medeama attacker in the box for a penalty.

Former Hearts defender, Vincent Atinga stepped up and converted with aplomb to give his side the lead but Hearts were later reduced to 10 men after Kwadwo Obeng Junior was shown a second yellow card.

Hearts will next play against Techiman Eleven Wonders on Sunday.
