GRA boss pledges simpler, more predictable tax regime

Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Sarpong, has announced that government will introduce major reforms to Ghana’s income tax and Customs laws in 2026 as part of efforts to build a simpler, more transparent, and predictable tax system.
Speaking at the 65th Annual General Meeting of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Mr. Sarpong said creating a stable tax environment is critical to enhancing industrial competitiveness and supporting the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
“We believe a predictable and transparent tax regime encourages competitiveness. When tax laws are clear, fairly applied, and consistent, businesses can plan, invest, and innovate with confidence,” he stated.
He cited the recent overhaul of the VAT regime in the 2026 Budget as evidence of government’s renewed commitment to tax simplification, noting that the reforms were heavily influenced by consultations with industry players.
