Arsenal have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign England international Noni Madueke in a deal worth £52 million, as Mikel Arteta moves to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.

The 22-year-old winger is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days after finalising personal terms on a five-year contract. The move marks a significant shift in Arsenal’s recruitment strategy this summer, as they prioritise pace, creativity, and depth in wide areas.

Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 but struggled to secure a regular starting role at Stamford Bridge, making 27 Premier League appearances and scoring three goals during his time with the club. While flashes of his dribbling ability and attacking intent were evident, his development was hindered by limited minutes and Chelsea’s inconsistent form.

Arsenal see the former England U21 star as a high-upside addition to a squad already boasting Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings. With a demanding fixture calendar, including Champions League football, Arteta is eager to rotate more frequently without sacrificing quality or intensity in the final third.“We need to be unpredictable in our attack,” Arteta said earlier this summer. “Having players who can stretch the pitch and beat defenders one-on-one is crucial for the way we want to play.”

Madueke’s arrival is also expected to complement Arsenal’s ongoing interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. The Gunners are reportedly preparing a formal bid for the versatile playmaker, who has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout performers over the past two seasons.

Arsenal’s recruitment drive reflects a shift toward dynamic, technically skilled English talents entering their peak years. Madueke, once a youth product at Tottenham before moving to the Netherlands, fits that profile. Known for his explosive acceleration and willingness to take on defenders, he is expected to compete primarily on the right flank — allowing Saka more rest while offering tactical variation.

The decision to allow Madueke to leave underscores Chelsea’s need to balance the books after heavy investment in recent windows. The move also continues a recent trend of high-profile transfers between London rivals, following Jorginho’s switch to the Emirates in 2023 and Kai Havertz’s move last summer.

Madueke’s imminent arrival signals Arsenal’s intent to challenge Manchester City once more in the title race after finishing second in back-to-back seasons. The club is expected to remain active in the market, with midfield reinforcements and a versatile forward also on the radar.
