Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has hinted that the collapse of his move to Reading is due to the fact that the English outfit tried to stop him from participating for Ghana at the AFCON games and not because he failed a medical as is being reported.

Gyan who plays for Chinese side Shanghai SIPG was in England on Sunday to discuss a move and had his medical on Monday.

But the move broke down amid rumours he failed the medical.

Gyan has taken to Twitter, however, and has appeared to hint that the move did not go ahead because of his forthcoming participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

If the skipper is called up by his country for the tournament in Cameroon which runs over January and February he could miss up to five weeks of the English season.

And his social media post hints that he was asked not to compete for his national team in order for his move to Berkshire to go ahead.

He wrote: “Am proud of my Country. No one can stop me from serving my country. Ghana made me who I am today.”

Gyan’s official mobile app (@BabyJetApp) also posted a message on its various platforms, simply saying “Lies, lies, les.”

"Baby Jet" joined Chinese Super League team Shanghai  SIPG in July 2015 having secured a contract which made him one of the best paid players on the planet - taking home £227,000 a week.
