Harrogate Town AFC has announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Zico Asare, marking their second acquisition of the summer transfer window.

Asare joins the club on a permanent transfer from Maidenhead United.

The 23-year-old caught the eye during the 2023/24 season, impressing enough to earn a call-up to the England C team based on his stellar performances.

Beginning his career at Fulham and representing England at the U15 level, Asare moved to Oxford City in 2021 before settling at Maidenhead United in 2022, where he established himself as a dependable right-back in the National League.

Lloyd Kerry, Harrogate Town's Head of Player Recruitment, expressed optimism about Asare's arrival, highlighting his athletic prowess and hunger to excel in the Football League.

"Zico is athletic, powerful, and eager for this opportunity. He fits the profile we seek in a full-back and will bring healthy competition for places," Kerry remarked.

"He possesses explosive speed, adept at breaking away from opponents and competes strongly, qualities that we anticipate will greatly benefit the team," Kerry added, looking forward to seeing Asare's contributions on the pitch.
