Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has stated that National Chairman of the party, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo “never meant what he said” in the leaked audio which has gone viral.

A leaked audio recording has exposed some diabolical intents by the NDC chairman against the Chairman of Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante and Electoral Commission (EC) boss, Jean Mensah.

In the said audio, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo waged a 'war' on Jean Mensah and also told the NDC supporters to insult Professor Emmanuel Asante.

But appearing on Peace FM's Kokrokoo Wednesday to comment on the content of the tape, Allotey Jacobs said although he was shocked after listening to the audio, he believes Ofosu-Ampofo "never meant what he said" and that the NDC Chairman is not a violent type.

"I'll stand up for Ofosu-Ampofo...I'll stick my neck for Ofosu-Ampofo. He never meant what he said. I know Ofosu-Ampofo very well...We've been close friends. When it comes to character, I'll defend him  to the last", said Alottey Jacobs.

Quizzed by host Kwame Sefa Kayi on whether he [Allotey] believes it was some youth who recorded the national chairman, he said "Yes, I tell you".

He however admonished the youth within the NDC to rather use their exuberancy to bubble the party back to power in 2020.

Allotey Jacobs defended that whatever the national chairman said was a mere political gimmick to convince his communicators to understand him on reasons why the NDC pulled out of the Ayawaso by-election.

He therefore appealed to Mr Ofosu-Ampofo to come out to publicly explain himself to Ghanaians.
