Hearts of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has vehemently criticized the behavior of Ghanaian football fans, citing their alleged misconduct during a recent game against Bechem United over the weekend.

Hayford's remarks come in the wake of an unprecedented incident during their Ghana Premier League clash in Week 28, where he made headlines for an unusual move on the pitch.

The encounter at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park was marred by hostility from supporters, prompting Hayford to take a stand by carrying a chair onto the field and sitting during the match.

In an interview with Akoma 87.9 in Kumasi, Hayford explained that his actions were a response to the unacceptable behavior witnessed during the game.

"I have traveled the length of Ghana following football for thirty years, and never have I seen anything like this where supporters and team officials invade the pitch and threaten referees," Hayford expressed with shock.

He emphasized that such incidents drive fans towards European football, where such misconduct is less prevalent.

Hayford confirmed reports that he was sprayed with urine by an unidentified supporter, highlighting the need to protect his players amidst the hostile environment.

"My boys are human beings, and we had to do everything to protect them, and that was the reason you saw me with a chair on the pitch," Hayford stated.

Despite the disruption, Hayford eventually exited the field, allowing the game to resume. However, Bechem United, playing with only 10 men, managed to avoid defeat on their home turf, with the game ending 1-1.

As Bechem United holds the sixth position on the table with 40 points, Hearts of Lions find themselves in the 17th spot, just above Real Tamale United.

Hayford's outspoken condemnation of fan misconduct underscores the need for a safer and more respectful football environment in Ghana.
