Heart of Lions delivered a surprise 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko at Obuasi’s Len Clay Stadium, handing Kotoko their second straight loss this season.

Former Hearts of Oak striker Kwadwo Obeng Jr. struck the decisive blow in the 28th minute, seizing on a defensive error by Kotoko’s goalkeeper Mohamed Camara to slot the ball into an open net.

Kotoko, eager to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Legon Cities, controlled 62% of possession and managed 10 attempts on goal, but they struggled to penetrate a disciplined Lions defense led by former Kotoko coach Bashir Hayford.

Both teams finished with only one shot on target, highlighting the close and competitive nature of the match.

The loss drops Kotoko from second to third place in the league standings as they look ahead to an away game against Bechem United.

Meanwhile, Heart of Lions, buoyed by their victory, rise to seventh and are set to face Berekum Chelsea in their next fixture.
