Accra Hearts of Oak's CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture against CI Kamsar is in limbo following a military coup in Guinea.

It comes just a week before the Ghanaian Champions travel to the West African neighbours in clash for group stage ticket.

Hearts of Oak are set to make a trip to Conakry to battle out with CI Kamsar in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League first leg tie on September 12 before the reverse tie on September 19 in Accra.

Following the Coup d'etat happening in Guinea, Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be considering the safety of players and match officials due to unrest for a possible cancellation or change of venue for the fixture.

The Military attempted a coup d'etat against President Alpha Condé and his government in the early hours of today.

"Since 8 am (local time), automatic weapon fire has been ringing in Kaloum, the business and administrative district and the headquarters of the presidential palace," local media reported "Guinea News".

The newspaper noted that "the reasons for these shots which terrorize the population" are not known for the moment (11h UT).

“All the streets have been deserted, while heavy gunfire continues. The soldiers, visibly unhappy, empty the magazines of their weapons, while the inhabitants of Kaloum remain holed up, terrorized and worried"

Col. Mamady Doumbouya said President Alpha Condé was in custody following hours of gunfire in the capital, Conakry, and warnings for people to stay indoors.

The military has seized control of Guinea, dissolved its government and sealed the borders, Doumbouya said, citing “the trampling of the rights of citizens” and “the disrespect of democratic principles” as motivations.

Military officers repeated the takeover claim on national television with Guinea’s red, green and yellow flag draped on their shoulders, adding that they planned to forge a transition government.
