Fathers are rarely hyped and appreciated like mothers when its that time to celebrated but they plant the seeds that bring forth children into this world.

Many fathers make a lot of sacrifices just to feed and cater for their families but all those sacrifices are met with disdain.

Fathers are accused of a whole lot yet many are breaking their backs for their families but are rarely appreciated like mothers.

Look at the buzz and hype that comes to town when its time to celebrate mothers as compared to fathers, its as if mothers are the ultimate heroes while fathers are always the villains undeserving of any applaud or commendation because of a few rotten ones among the lot.

Sunday 20th June, 2021 was father's day and it was celebrated across the length and breadth of the world and in Ghana too but as usual with less hype and attention as always but one father shared his chilling story of how he had to leave his well paid broadcast media job just to take care of his young children.

I stumbled upon a Facebook post shared by one Yaw Preko Senior:

I RESIGNED FROM MY BROADCASTING JOB TO TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN

It's Fathers' Day and I think it is the best time to share my experience on why I chose my children over my job.

When my wife got pregnant for the second time, she didn't get much of my attention. I only concentrated on my job and travels.

Along the way, my dad fell sick. We lost him. This implies that I became actively engaged in a way that the family, including the unborn child, did not get the best of me.

The date for my father's funeral coincided with the EDD of the unborn baby. So while at the funeral, I was just praying that the baby should wait until I return to Kumasi. My thoughts were; who will take her to the hospital in case labour starts in the night? Or who will provide her some basic needs?

Thankfully, we finished the funeral on Sunday, I returned to Kumasi Wednesday night around 8pm. Then about 4hrs later, around 12midnight, labour started. It means God had listened to my prayers and the baby was just waiting for me before he arrives.

The pressure was not too much because my mum-in-law had taken Yaa Prekoh (our firstborn) with her to Accra. I took madam to the hospital and just as I return home to pick some stuff, I received her call. "Daddy, I've delivered oo," she told me. "Wow, so soon?" I wondered. God was just there for us.🙌🙏

To cut the story short, I knew I hadn't been stable at home throughout her pregnancy period, coupled with the stress I've gone through from the time of dad's admission in the hospital till he died, I decided to rest it all and spend some quality time with the family. So I RESIGNED from my job.

The main objective for the quit was to take care of the children, specifically the new baby, so that my wife, who during her pregnancy got a new job, could also start her new career. I send Lois to school every morning and come back home to take over so that madam can go to the office. When she gets home after work and takes over from me, then I'll pick my laptop and start creating my content.

Although I've been home since October 2020, I never forgot that I'm the family head and would be the same person to take care of them. I bought a powerful laptop just so I could concentrate on my IT skills and create more genuine content as a writer, to earn money.

On this day of Fathers' Day, I bless God for it all. The strength, the patience, just everything.

I intend to step out next month, by which time Yaw Prekoh Jnr. would be matured for creche.

What makes me so proud is that I partly helped my wife in nursing our baby so that she can keep her job. Who knows, she could have lost the opportunity and become a burden on me now.

I encourage all men to support their women. Sometimes you need to sacrifice to make a peaceful home.

God bless you all ..and Happy Fathers Day.

Yaw Prekoh Snr.

Sending you loads of love🥰 from my hideout - Asokwa, Adansi North, Ashanti.
