Professor Emmanuel Marfo-Owusu has said that his decision to head the institution years ago was not for wealth creation but he was already rich before his appointment.

Embattled Rector Rector of the Wa Polytechnic  disclosed on Okay FM on Wednesday that he is upset  by a litany of allegations leveled against him by some lecturers of the institution that he violated procurement procedures in the purchase of a vehicle worth over  million Ghana Cedis which is in line with his condition of service.

The Wa Polytechnic is the least among institution he has served in the country since his return to Ghana 8 years ago mentioning among others the University of Tokyo, University Oxford, University of Washington, the University of Cape Coast as a few of the institutions he has worked with, According to him

“It is not now I am coming create wealth for myself. I am strategically positioned in society since I came to Ghana 8 years ago. I am not worried at all about the allegations because I have not stolen money and have not also violated any law”, he revealed.

He has insisted that he did not breach the procurement regulations in the purchase of a Mercedes Benz worth about GH¢ 500,000.

It would be recalled that Prof Marfo-Owusu was attacked by some lecturers at the Wa Polytechnic on Monday, 9 April and subsequently out of campus.

This follows an allegation that he procured a vehicle for himself at the cost of over GH¢ 500,000 without the approval of the Governing Council.

The matter has attracted the attention of the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education and the Rector has been suspended by the Governing Council for investigations to continue.

But commenting on the issue, the embattled rector said he is capable of affording a car and therefore will not breach the regulations to buy an expensive car.

Prof Marfo-Owusu said “if they were thinking that the car is very expensive, that is their problem. I have better cars and have worked at so many countries and so why should I breach such regulations if I can afford better cars” he quizzed on Accra based Okay FM

Professor Marfo Owusu revealed that he has filed a fresh suit to halt his interdiction and a probe into allegations of embezzling over GH ¢ 500,000

According to him, his Lawyers are returning to the court to sue the Polytechnic authorities for contempt and will, therefore, be awaiting the outcome.
