New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said that he is not interested in any ministerial appointment in the incoming Akufo-Addo government.

According to him, though he is competent to hold any position offered him, there are equally competent and educated people in the party who can perform better.

“I don’t need any ministerial appointment in my government. Our party has competent and highly educated men who can work efficiently and help Nana Addo to rule Ghana. I know some of them but I will not mention names but I am just not interested in any ministerial position” he stated.

Mr Agyapong’s comment follows an appeal Akufo-Addo made to the National Executive Committee of the NPP to give him more time to announce his proposed ministers.

Akufo-Addo on Thursday asked for more time to enable him name ministers ahead of his official swearing-in.

The president-elect is expected to present the list of his proposed ministers to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP for review.

A meeting between him and NEC on Thursday to deliberate on the matter, ended without a decision being taken on which personalities will serve as ministers in the incoming government.

Meanwhile, another meeting has been scheduled between the President-elect and the NEC to bring closure on the matter.

There have been reports of lobbying for various positions in Akufo-Addo’s incoming government.

But the outspoken MP in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Friday has asked members of his party to desist from putting undue pressure on President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, ahead of his ministerial appointments.

Ken Agyapong believes Nana Addo should be given enough time to make the right decision and not put what he describes as unnecessary pressure on the man.
