2016 Ghana Journalist of the Year, Kwame Sefa Kayi has stated he is not a weed smoker.

The host of Peace FM morning show is the latest to add his voice to the legalization of marijuana in the country.

Chairman General as he is affectionately called, during a discussion segment on his morning show program last Tuesday opined it is high time the Government of Ghana legalized the substance to boost the country's economic revenue.

Several people after the comment have taken to social platforms to jab the ace broadcaster with some saying he [Sefa Kayi] smokes weed hence the advocacy.

But explaining himself further on Entertainment Review show hosted by Akwesi Aboagye on Saturday, Chairman General indicated he does not smoke weed.

"Never! I don't smoke weed", he affirmed.

Chairman General also cleared the air that he was not for the abuse and smoking of the substance.

According him, his comment was a wake call for our leaders to take a second look at marijuana since it could be used for recreational, research and medicinal purposes.

The status quo remains same as the laws of Ghana prohibits the use of the substance, which makes one culpable of been reprimanded if caught with the substance.

But ace broadcaster says there is nothing wrong with the country legalizing the product and exporting it since according to him, some countries in Europe and the United States have started the course.

He said marijuana sells higher than cocoa, timber and other natural resources which the country has relied upon over the years, indicating the weed, if legalized, could also be used for recreational, research and medicinal purposes.

"Go go the U.S and Europe and verify for yourself, 1 metric ton of marijuana is sold for 10 million dollars. People are buying it in large quantities like 10 tons, 20 tons, and 50 tons", he stated.

Other top personalities like Dr Akrasi Sarpong, Dr Akwasi Osei, Kwesi Pratt and Black Raster have added calls for the legalization of marijuana, including the late UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
