Ghana head coach Otto Addo has shared his emotional reaction following the Black Stars' 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The defeat has put Ghana’s qualification hopes in jeopardy, compounding a difficult campaign that included a previous loss to Angola and a draw with Niger.

After being held to a goalless draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana faced another setback in the return fixture in Libya, where Sudan secured a 2-0 win.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) media team, Addo revealed that the result had a profound impact on him, but he was grateful for the support from family and friends, which helped him recover emotionally.

“To be honest, I felt dead the last two days, but now I’ve received a lot of positive feedback and support from family and friends.

This is the time when I need them, and I believe all the players and the entire team need it as well. This support has brought me back on track,” the 45-year-old coach shared.

The loss leaves Ghana in a difficult position, with just two points from four games in the qualifiers.

The Black Stars must now secure victories in their final group matches against Angola and Niger in November, while also hoping that Sudan drops points, to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON alive.
