The policeman in the centre of discussion for fixing broken-down traffic light in Accra, Lance Corporal Simon Agbeko has revealed what pushes him in giving out to the poor and vulnerable in society.

According to Cpl Agbeko, he does so based on divine directions he receives from God.

Stationed at the Accra Regional Command, Cpl Agbeko won the hearts and admiration of many Ghanaians after visuals of him undertaking some community service while on duty went viral.

Notable among the numerous services he has rendered is the fixing of a broken-down traffic light at Odorkor in Accra and the donation of wheelchairs, canes, and crutches to physically challenged persons on the streets of Accra and in various mosques and homes across the capital.

In an interview with ABC News, Lance Corporal Simon Agbeko explained that he has a special way of communicating with God and receives instructions on when, how, who and what to give out or do on specific days.

There are times he has attempted side-stepping the divine directions he receives but in those cases, according to him, he failed to make any impact or complete the mission making him believe that he has been chosen as a vessel to accomplish a task.

“Since it is a gift God has given me, I look at my duty schedule and pick a number of days because I do not want it to affect my work. The actual days I will pick, I pray over it and then He will give me a specific date to go and do the donation. Sometimes I pick my date and go and it’s unsuccessful, that is when I pick a date in the physical realm (human understanding)”

“My first crutches I donated, I intended to give it to someone at Achimota, around the traffic light at Melcom. When I got to Kwashiman like I said God has a way of talking to me, so He spoke to me and I turn and saw a man sitting across the road and God directed me to give the crutches to that person. This is the actual person I want you to give the crutches to and after doing it I got the social media attention,” Lance Corporal Agbeko revealed to ABC News.

Aside from donating items to the physically challenged, the Officer at the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service stated that he has children whose school fees he pays; for others, he provides them with school uniforms, bags, and stationery based on the directions he receives.

Fixing the traffic light, he explained, was only a part of his duties as a police officer to maintain properties of the State and keep people safe within the communities.
Even though he claims there hasn’t been any formal recognition of his efforts, particularly, the impression it is creating in the minds of people about the calibre of personnel in the Service, the young Police Officer stressed that he is confident the IGP and other authorities will appreciate what he does when their attention is drawn to the acts.

“Where the damaged traffic light was, for instance, thousands of motorists pass there each day. God made me understand that He will not make me wait till someone is hurt or wounded by the traffic light before I go donate the crutches to the person. Donating the crutches is helping one person but fixing the broken down traffic light is saving the lives of a thousand people” he details.
“If there is promotion and it is the will of God, I will accept it but if they give me promotion and God doesn’t approve of it, I will reject it” he added.

Despite embarking on these projects from his personal coffers for close to 2 years, Lance Corporal Attipoe notes that he can’t quantify or give estimates of how much he has spent since he began.

God, he claims, takes care of him and ensures he is able to survive on the meagre funds left after embarking on the projects.

On the back of recent incidents in Ghana’s political landscape where individual have risen to assume greater political influence, Lance Corporal Agbeko dismissed rumours that he only enforcing a grand scheme in an attempt to gain the trust of people.
