Veteran Ghanaian coach, Karim Zito, has opened up about his unwavering belief in former Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum during his tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.
Zito expressed his trust in Ogum's abilities, highlighting the coach's instrumental role in leading Kotoko to their first Ghana Premier League title in eight years.
Zito, currently serving as the coach for Dreams FC, emphasized the challenges faced by Asante Kotoko in the ongoing season, citing the absence of an experienced coach as a contributing factor.
He argued that while the players at the club may be young and inexperienced, it is the guidance of a skilled coach that can yield positive results.
"I had immense confidence in Prosper Ogum's ability to deliver at Kotoko, even though the players were young and new to the team, because he possessed a wealth of knowledge in developmental football," Zito shared during an interview with Akoma FM. "Had it been any other coach, I would have been more skeptical."
Zito acknowledged that the problems faced by Asante Kotoko were a consequence of a new coach taking charge.
He emphasized that it was not an easy task for Ogum to achieve immediate success with a team he did not build. Navigating such challenges requires the expertise and experience of seasoned coaches.
Asante Kotoko, who have encountered difficulties since Ogum's departure at the end of the previous season, currently sit in sixth place in the league standings.
They are set to face Kotoku Royals in a matchday 31 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Monday. Meanwhile, Karim Zito has led his team to the FA Cup final, where they are poised to battle King Faisal for the coveted trophy.
