Any attempt by former President Mahama to contest the 2020 general elections would be met with an injunction, an astute lawyer has warned.

Lawyer Maurice Kwabena Ampaw has joined the league of persons who believe it is about time to undertake a legal exercise at the court to decide whether the 1992 Constituion grants former President Mahama the opportunity to run for office again after exhausting his tenure.

According to Lawyer Mauricre Ampaw, he is prepared to “legally frasturate him (Mahama) and fight him politically to stop him from coming back”.

The move, he explained, would benefit the nation.

“It wouldn’t help the NDC in any way, and this is the reason I have chosen to speak against his return”, he said.

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com, Lawyer Ampaw repeated that “I will frastrate him legally by taking him to court so that he goes there and give reasons on why he wants to come back. The exercise I have chosen to undertake is a test of the 1992 Constitution and that is why we have the court to decide whether I have a good case or not.”

Amongst the issues to seek clarity in the court, Lawyer Ampaw mentioned that he would be questioning if the 1992 Constitution allows former Presidents, who have finished serving their tenure and collected their ex-gratia in full, the opportunity to come back for double ex-gratia.

“I would be seeking to know if an ex-president who has finished serving his term and collected his ex-gratia can come back for a double ex-gratia...whether it is in the spirit of our Constitution that we should have a situation whereby you are given an opportunity to serve the nation as a President you can come back for another ex-gratia”, he said.

He however maintained that he is patiently waiting on the sidelines for the day the National Democratic Congress would make a move to elect former President Mahama as their flagbearer during their impending primaries.

“After the elections, if he declares his intent to contest the national elections, I (Ampaw) would place an injunction on him”, he stated.

He went on to promise that “ the injunction would happen. I don’t care about the insults because I am above it. I am doing this for the good of the NDC”.

Lawyer Ampaw warned that former President Mahama’s comeback would be dangerous for the nation.
