The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has sent a strong signal to serial callers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region that under no circumstances will he break his vow to steal public funds to feed them.
According to the former Fourth Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, should his stance against corruption cause him his job he is prepared to go than to engage in corrupt practices to satisfy the demands of the serial callers of the NPP.
“If the President says that he does not need my services anymore, I Osei-Mensah will go. I made a vow prior to entering into politics that I am coming into politics to do different politics. I said that any position that I will find myself, I will act with decency and bring dignity to the particular office. I have condemned corruption and I will still condemn corruption”, he noted.
Some serial callers of the NPP in the Ashanti Region have accused the party leaders, especially, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, of neglecting them despite the numerous promises they made to them prior to the 2016 general elections.
To them, ever since the party came to power, none out of the 64 has been offered employment in any of the government establishments in the region.
The situation, they noted, is having a heavy toll on their lives and therefore cannot contain it any longer than to voice out their grievances for the powers that be to call the Ashanti Regional Minister to order.
To express their anger, the furious serial callers on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, incinerated their mobile phones at the full glare of the public at the Abyss Park in Kumasi where they held a press conference an announced the beginning of their sit-down strike.
But Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah interacting with Accra-based Okay FM, Thursday, said the serial callers are simply being ungrateful to him and other leading members of the party in the region despite the numerous support they have given them.
Each of the serial callers, he said, is given a stipend of GH₵150.00 to buy call credit while the other communicators of the party who go on radio and television stations to defend the party are supported with GH₵200.00 each.
According to him, most of the aggrieved serial callers were offered jobs by the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive but they declined.
“They [serial callers] told him that they amount of money they make a day out of the errands they do is bigger than the one salary they will receive from that job”, he noted.
