Former Ghana striker Anthony Yeboah says that he hopes that his nephew, Kelvin Yeboah would play for the country of his birth Ghana over Italy at the senior level.

The youngster was handed a Black Stars call up for the matches against Ethiopia and South Africa last year in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers but snubbed Ghana instead choosing to play for the Italy U-21 side instead of the senior national team.

Yeboah has been in great form for his Austrian side Sturm Graz catching the attention of the handlers of the Ghana national team but he turned down the invitation saying that he prefers to play for Italy where he was raised despite being born in Accra.

At the time, his uncles Tony Yeboah was lashed by a section of Ghanaians for not doing enough to convince his nephew to play for the West African country.

Speaking on Onua TV, the former Okwahu United striker says that he hopes his nephew choses Ghana at senior level as he is still eligible.

“Kelvin Yeboah was raised in Italy; his father is there so I can only advise him. At the time he was invited to represent Ghana I told him, he has not committed himself and still eligible to play for Ghana. So, when he reach certain stage of his career, he can decide on the country he wants to represent

“At the time Kelvin wasn’t at his peak, I recommended him for the juvenile national team but no one picked him. I talk to him, definitely I would prefer him playing for Ghana instead of Italy at the senior level” he said.
