Ibrahim Salifu joins Benin national team after nationality switch

Ibrahim Salifu, once a standout in the Ghana Premier League, has officially joined the Benin national team, marking a new chapter in his international career after completing a nationality switch.
The FC Drita midfielder, who previously represented Ghana at various youth levels, trained with Gernot Rohr’s squad ahead of their friendly against Burkina Faso, and is expected to make his debut against the Stallions.
Salifu: “My Dream Has Come True”
“I am very happy with my choice to play for Benin, because my late father was also from Benin… My dream was to one day play for the Benin national team, and that dream has come true.”
Salifu’s decision reflects a personal connection to his heritage, and his move adds depth to Benin’s midfield options as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
