The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seventeen police officers in recognition of their exceptional performance, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

The promotions, announced on January 27, 2026, highlight the officers’ key roles in several high-impact security operations across the country, particularly in the fight against narcotics trafficking and illegal firearms.

Among the notable achievements cited was a major drug bust in Ho in the Volta Region, where officers intercepted ten wrapped slabs of substances suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of GH¢1,032,650, along with several sacks of other suspected narcotics.

In a separate operation at Jacobu, the team recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and eight rounds of live AAA ammunition during a routine patrol — a move credited with averting potential security threats.

Speaking at the promotion ceremony in the presence of members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), IGP Yohuno praised the officers for their discipline, courage, and commitment to the values of the Ghana Police Service.

“Your promotion is not only recognition of your past achievements but a call to higher responsibility. Let this inspire all personnel to work diligently. Excellence and integrity remain the foundation for recognition within the Service,” he stated.

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to merit-based advancement, stressing that promotions would continue to be linked to performance, operational success, and service to the public.

The newly promoted officers are expected to mentor junior personnel and uphold high professional standards in their new ranks.

The gesture, the Police Service said, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability, professionalism, and the fight against organised crime nationwide.
