German born Ghanaian winger Ansgar Knauff is currently on loan at Eintract Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund and says that the loan is helping him in diverse ways.
The winger born in Göttingen to a German mother and Ghanaian father, but raised by his single-mother.
He began his youth career at hometown club SVG Göttingen, before joining Hannover 96's youth academy in 2015.
A year later, he joined the Borussia Dortmund youth team, in which he played in the 2019–20 UEFA Youth League. He signed his first professional contract with Borussia Dortmund on 25 November 2020, lasting until 2023
Ansgar Knauff is expected to gain match practice at Eintracht Frankfurt by the end of the 2022/23 season , and he has already been allowed to play twice in short assignments for the SBU .
"In terms of football, I'm definitely not where I want to be yet. I have strengths, but I also have certain weaknesses. Especially when I'm playing in this position, I have to improve my defensive and positional play even more. I'll talk to the coaches a lot and make video analysis so that I can keep getting better," the youngster set high standards for himself at the official presentation on Tuesday.
In particular, he can well imagine a role on the right side, one of Frankfurt's problem positions: "I definitely believe in this position. Of course I still have to get used to certain tactical things. But I will do everything I can to To occupy the position optimally and to generate a certain offensive urge on the right flank." His goal of the loan: "More playing time at the top level."
At BVB he "learned a lot, especially during my time with the pros, where I played with top players", but the pros didn't play regularly.
In the current season he has played a total of 132 minutes in the Bundesliga, 20 in the Champions League and three in the DFB Cup, plus eight appearances with the second team in the 3rd division.
When asked about his role model, he didn't name ex-teammate Erling Haaland, but a professional who was much more in line with his player type: Kylian Mbappe, "the best player in the world" and "absolute role model". He has "everything you need and got everything out of what he has."
