Controversial Hearts of Oak legend, Bernard Don Bortey says that he is not a Kotoko legend despite joining they  club's legends in bringing out the Ghana Premier League trophy last Sunday.

The former Hearts of Oak winger joined a lot of Asante Kotoko former players when they were celebrating their 25th league title triumph last Sunday against Elmina Sharks.

His presence at the Kotoko trophy coronation has caused consternation among Hearts of Oak fans who revere Don Bortey a lot.

Despite promising Kotoko  to play for them in the 2000's and even taking cash from the team but never did, Bortey was given a heroes welcome by Kotoko fans.

“I am not a legend of Asante Kotoko but they gave me a nice reception," he told Kumasi-based Pure FM.

"I don’t think the current leaders of Hearts of Oak understand football. They don’t allow the old players to get closer to the team. I don’t think the current players know some of us.

“It’s a big honor for me to join Asante Kotoko, I’m proud and I think I can add it to my Achievement that there was a day Kotoko won the league and they invited me to join them.

“I say it is a big honor and you can choose to take it personally if you want because I’m done playing Hearts of Oak and now I’m a coach.

“Thank you Nana Yaw Amponsah, Opoku Nti, and all stakeholders for giving me this opportunity,” Bortey ended.
