A senior partner of the Danquah Institute and a close associate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere-Darko has denied claims that he is pitching Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, against the Akyems.

At the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, NPP executives fell to their knees to apologise to the Asantehene who expressed his discontent about active attempts by some people close to government to denigrate the Golden Stool in their bid to exalt Okyehene's stool.

In a tweet Thursday Gabby Otchere-Darko stated: “Am I so stupid that I would work against my own interest and turn one half of me against the other half by inciting my mother’s people against my father’s people; that I would bite the very hand that feeds us politically? Perplexing.”

Acting General Secretary, John Boadu; Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah;  NPP Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Kwabena Senkyire, trooped to the Manyhia Palace pleading with the revered Ashanti King to spare the governing party his wrath.

Otumfuo said he has reliable information that Gabby Otchere-Darko and other close associates of government have been carrying out nefarious activities with their cohorts hired to bring him down.

He warned such people to be careful in their pursuit since he is aware of every move they make.

The Asantehene who appeared visibly angry minced no words during the outburst that lasted about three minutes.

Shocked at the anger of the Asante Kingdom's overlord, the linguists quickly intervened to calm the situation.

Meanwhile, divisional chiefs in Asante Region say they will resist attempts by any individual or group to denigrate the Asantehene and his kingdom for political and other parochial interests.

The Ashanti Region remains key to the electoral fortunes of the NPP.

The party recorded about 1,700,000 votes, representing 75 percent of ballots cast, the highest for all regions, in the 2016 presidential elections that brought the current government to power.

Sources say President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is planning to lead a government delegation to the Manhyia Palace to resolve the matter.
