A politician from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party has been charged with raping a 16-year-old girl.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday charged Kuldeep Singh Sengar with the 2017 rape of the 16-year-old girl, whose father was later killed after he was beaten in custody allegedly by Sengar's brother.

The Bangermau legislator is already in jail for allegedly raping the teenager in June 2017.

According to local media, the complainant accused Sengar of raping her at his home in 2017 when she had gone to meet him about a job. In April, she attempted suicide outside Chief Minister Adityanath’s house, alleging that the police did not act on her complaint though she had approached them several months earlier.

The CBI then arrested Sengar on April 13.

On Wednesday, Sengar and his associate Sashi Singh were charged with criminal conspiracy and other offenses under the Indian Penal Code, and with rape of minors under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The investigating agency alleged that the complainant was raped at Sengar’s home on June 4, 2017, and again between June 11, 2017, to June 20, 2017, by some other accused.

Kuldeep's brother Atul Sengar and four others have also been charged in connection with the death of the complainant’s father on April 9. The father, who was in judicial custody at the time, died after he got into a fight with Atul Singh Sengar.
